Home Training Students

Students who do not take the full Driver’s Education program must take the 8-hour Safe Driving course. Tom’s offers the 8-hour Safe Driving course including a mandatory 2 hour parent/student class. Class consist of three sessions part 1 (safety), part 2 (alcohol & drug), and part 3 (parent/student). Part 1 and Part 2 are held on Saturday’s. Part 1 is from 9-11:00am and Part 2 is from 9-1:00pm. Part 3, parent/student session is held once a month from 5:00 to 7:00pm. All sessions must be attended in order to receive a State Certificate (CS-1). The fee is $125.00 with a combination of 4 hours of behind the wheel training for $340.00. This will qualify the students for off-site testing.

Off-Site Testing

Students who choose to do Home Training must wait 6 months from the permit issue date to apply for a Connecticut license. To be placed on an Off-Site DMV test students must take a minimum of 4 hours on the road instruction with our school. The following must be submitted to our office at least 2 weeks prior to the date:
1. Application with Social Security number
2. Copy of Learner’s Permit & Parent license
3. Parent signature on bottom of application (signature of instruction)
4. Drug and Alcohol Safety Certificate (CS1-)
5. Credit/Check/Cash payable to Tom’s Driving School in the amount of $195.00
Test dates cannot be held and space is limited to the first 15 applicants. Once application is submitted there will be no-refunds. Applicant is responsible for space that is reserved.
