New Drivers 18 & 19 Years & Older

Anyone applying for a Connecticut Drivers License is required to obtain a Connecticut Learner’s permit. The permit test appointment MUST be scheduled online. You will be given an eye exam prior to the 25 question knowledge test. Documents to be presented are Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Passport, 2 pieces of recent mail showing the postmark date which is your proof of residence in Connecticut. And all documents according to your status.

All new drivers must complete an 8 Hour Alcohol, Drug and Safety Program. The 8 hour class is held on Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm. Part 1 & Part 2 are required. When registering you are required to complete the application, using your Legal name, address, date of birth and include the dates you will be attending. Class space is limited, walk-ins are welcome upon availability. The fee for this course is $130.00.

Tom’s Driving School offers on the road instruction for adults at $85.00 per hour. You will be required to hold a learners permit for 90-days before taking a road test for your CT. driver’s license.

Off-Site Testing for your CT. Driver’s License is available at Tom’s Driving School for students who have met the state requirements. To reserve a space for a test date, you will need to submit the following:
  1. Application Form R-229 (questions 1-16)
  2. Copy of Learner’s Permit
  3. Check payable to Tom’s Driving School $195.00
  4. CS1- Drivers Education Certificate (8 hour)
Test dates cannot be held and space is limited to the first 15 applicants. Paperwork must be submitted prior to test date. Once application is submitted there will be no-refunds. Applicant is responsible for space that is reserved.

For students who failed a previous driving test are required to submit all paper work above, along with a check payable to DMV for $40.00.
