Dear Student and Parent:
Thank you for your interest in our Full Driver Education Program. Our objective is to fulfill the standards set by the State of Connecticut and go beyond their requirements. This program consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of behind the wheel instruction. By taking this course, students may apply for their license 4 months from their permit date and this is the program that may be recognized for an insurance discount.Classroom Instruction:
The State of Connecticut requires each student to take 30 hours of classroom instruction. Classroom can begin when a student reaches the age of 16. Classes meet Monday and Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:00pm. We also add in additional classes throughout the year, as needed. This course cannot be completed in less than 8 weeks. All classroom materials are included.Parent/Student Classroom:
As part of the driver’s education class, parents must now attend a two hour session with their son/daughter. Please check with our office staff for available dates. Pre-registration is required.Behind the Wheel Training:
Although students may start classroom without a permit at 16, they must have their learner’s permit in order to schedule driving lessons. Lessons may be scheduled by calling our office. Cancellations, for any reason, must be made 48 hours in advance or there will be a charge for time reserved.Completion of Course:
Students will receive a State of Connecticut Certificate of Completion and a Tom’s Graduation Certificate for your insurance company.Testing For License:
When all DMV and Tom’s Driving School requirements have been fulfilled, Off-Site testing for a Connecticut Driver’s License is available, for an additional fee. An Inspector from the DMV administers the road exam. Once the student passes the test, he/she will receive an evaluation form from the Inspector. This form must be presented to the DMV in Norwalk in order for the student to receive his/her license. There is a 48 hour waiting period.
