Drive Only License

Tom’s wanted to share with you some information on a new DMV program to issue driver licenses to undocumented immigrants. Authorized by the General Assembly to begin on January 2, 2015, this new Drive Only driver license program for undocumented people is to achieve the public safety goals of encouraging all drivers to learn the rules of the road and how to drive safely.

Appointment scheduling for Drive Only applicants will not be available until December 1, 2014, and the first available test date is January 2, 2015. Any Drive Only applicant who has already scheduled a Learner’s Permit test must cancel their appointment and wait until December 1st to schedule a new test date.

If the person has the documents necessary to be eligible, they can then schedule an appointment after December 1, 2014 online through DMV to take the knowledge test and obtain an Adult Learner Permit. It is critical that all applicants understand they must study the Connecticut Driver Manual so that they are prepared to pass the knowledge test. Tom’s will be offering services to those who need assistance when making your Learner’s Permit appointment on line. Packages will be available for each individuals needs.
